How to > Create a Photo Book in Simple Path
Customize your photo book
Before you re-arrange the pictures or pages in your photo book, make sure the style of the book appeals to you-it could affect how you’d like to sort your pictures.
You can choose from a variety of styles by clicking the “Change style” button in the upper-left. We’ve designed styles that correspond to seasons, milestones, special occasions and holidays.
See how your photo book will look by clicking on the swatches on the left. With one click, the style you select will set the backgrounds, layouts, edges and fonts for your entire book. Select a new style if you’d like, then click the “Done” button when finished. Review your photo book for text that’s cut off (if applicable) and picture crops, since it’ll be printed exactly as it’s displayed.
To change the way the pictures have been arranged in your photo book click the “Arrange Pictures” button. Use the scroll bar on the right to view all pages.
To rearrange the page order manually, click on the background of the page you’d like to move, then drag-and-drop it to the desired location. You can also drag the page number to move it. Note that some pages, including the cover and title, cannot be moved.
To swap pictures, click-and-drag a picture and drop it on another, the pictures will automatically switch.
If you don’t want your pictures to be arranged chronologically, you can click “change sort” in the upper-left corner of the page to change the sort order of your pictures—by original order, by date taken or by filename.
Double click on any spread to return to the two-page spread view.
Add and remove pictures
To add a picture to a page, drop it onto the background from the picture strip or from another page.
You can add more pictures to your photo book by clicking the “Add pictures” button in the upper-right. You may be asked to sign in or sign up in order to see and add your pictures.
On the pop-up window, in the “My Shutterfly” tab, find the album or pictures you’d like to add. If you’re a member of any Shutterfly Share sites, you’ll see pictures from these sites in the “Share sites” tab. You can also add pictures to your photo book by clicking on the “Upload” button in the top right. Pictures uploaded will be added to your photo book as well as to your Shutterfly account.
Select “Add to photo book.” You can place the pictures in pages at the end of the book.
To remove pictures, mouse over and click the “X” button on the picture you’d like to get rid of. A pop-up of the picture will appear. When the “Remove” button is clicked, the picture will be moved to the picture strip. The remaining pictures on the page will automatically adjust to a new layout. Alternately, you can drag pictures off a page and onto the picture strip. When there are no pictures left on a page, it becomes a text-only page.
To remove a picture entirely from the photo book, select that picture from the picture strip and click “Remove” again.
Add or remove pages
If you need more space for pictures, click the “Add page” button in the upper-right. An additional page will be placed immediately after the page that is highlighted in orange.
Your photo book can be as long as 101 pages and hold as many as 400 pictures.
To remove pages, click the “Remove page” button in the upper-right. You can also delete an empty page by clicking the “X” button on the page.
Make sure your pictures are cropped properly. Click on any picture to crop it, rotate it or remove it. When you’re done, click the “Close” button at the bottom.
To add text, roll your mouse over the page until you see a green text box. Click on the box and enter your text. You’ll see a warning if you enter text that won’t fit the space. Note that the font type, size and color are set based on the style of the photo book you selected, so if you want a different font choose a different style.
To edit your photo book’s cover, click on the “Cover Options” link next to the cover page. From the options on the left, choose a cover layout and type (if applicable). To select a different picture, click the “Change picture” button. For hard and padded photo cover books, the title you choose for your cover will also be printed on the spine.
