Catholics all over the country celebrate today, Sunday, January 21, the feast day of the child Jesus known to many as the Sto. Nino. It is that time of the year when devotees show how much they revere the Sto. Ni?o not only by going to different churches but also by going out to the streets where they dance and shout "Viva Senor Santo Nino."
Sunday at 9 p.m., different images of the Sto. Nino joined a procession organized by the " Parokya San Miguel Arkanghel". Followed by street dancing competition of talented elemetary schools students. Its a "Sinulog" style of Tayabas,Quezon.
The feast of the Sto. Nino is a Christian tradition celebrated only in the Philippines. It traces its roots to the Filipino devotion to the Christ the Child since the 16th century when Princess Joanna of Cebu was given an image of the Sto. Nino by Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese who discovered the Philippines.
